How to apply?
Create a myNSFAS account via this link:https://my.nsfas.org.za/
Your ID number will be your username.
Click on the ‘Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents
Submit your application
Who qualifies for funding?
• South African citizens or permanent residents
• SASSA grant recipients
• Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
• Persons living with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
Who should not apply?
• Students who have already applied and received funding in previous years, have not as yet graduated on their current qualification and do not intend to change from one sector to another (TVET College to University or vice versa). They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies, provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
It is very important that during the application, applicant provides the correct ID number, name(s) and surname as reflected in their ID documents NSFAS will validate the ID upfront. This will allow us to evaluate your application with the validated and correct information received from the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Department of Basic Education (DBE) and others.

Required documents All applicants
• Copy of ID
• ID copies of parent(s), guardian or spouse
• Proof of income of parent(s), guardian or spouse (payslip or appointment letter, where applicable)
Note: If you are a SASSA recipient, then no proof of income is required. Certified documents are not a requirement Based on the application type, the system will generate a list of required documents for upload.
Students living with disabilities must provide:
• A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form (available on the website)
Students recognised as vulnerable child must provide:
An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide completed and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker (available on the website)
Students –( non-SASSA) who has indicated no family members details must provide:
An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Non-SASSA Declaration Form (available on the website)
Other documents required, if applicable:
• Retrenchment letter
• Death certificate/s ; Divorce decree
Note: No affidavits or copy of driver’s license will be accepted as proof of ID
