For most of us, the decluttering and cupboard organisation exercise happens once in a while, looks good for a while and before you know it, it ends up looking like it was never organised at all.
Maintaining an organised cupboard is a continuous process, the process is however seamless if you get your organisation right from the first place. The following tips will help you stay organised.
Declutter your clothes by category
An easy and efficient way to declutter your clothes is to arrange them by type. Separate your clothes into categories like pants, dresses, tops, accessories, and undergarments, etc. You will find it easier to compare similar clothes when they’re all grouped. This makes it easier to get rid of the things you know you have too much of or don’t want.
As you go through your stuff, commit to only keep the clothes you know you love and wear with frequency.
If anything gives you a reason to hesitate, place it in a pile for donation.
Clean your cupboard
Once you’ve made a separate donation and keep piles for items. Give your cupboard a good clean and visualise or design a new layout of the cupboard by using storage solutions if you have a small cupboard and ideally using colour coordinated storage and hangers. A mish-mash of a collection of plastic hangers with wire, wooden, and velvet hangers screams cupboard chaos. Limit the visual clutter by streamlining the look using matching hangers.
Store your clothes by category
Just as you did when you decluttered, you will need to follow the same principle to store back your clothes into the cupboard. While this tip seems obvious, it makes all the difference when you want to locate something specific or in an emergency when you want someone to grab something for you. Keep like items with like items.
Store your most-used clothes at eye level
Everything you wear regularly should be stored at eye level in the middle of your closet to make it easy to find. Less used items should go above or below your most popular clothes and relegate your least-worn items to the top shelf.
Colour-code your wardrobe
While the colour coding task can be tedious, the result is simply satisfying and worth the effort. Not only is it pleasing to the eye, but it also makes picking out an outfit much easier.
